Researchers at McMaster University, Canada, have presented the first promising steps towards a vaccine against chlamydia, a “silent” sexually transmitted infection (STI) that affects 113 million people worldwide each year and which can lead to infertility. The research, published in the journal Vaccine, could help protect people all over the world from chlamydia. If left untreated, chlamydia can cause upper genital tract infections, pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility.
